Formerly known as the"Hangzhou Light Industry Machinery Design Institute of the Ministry of Light Industry,"Hangzhou Light Industry Mechanical&Electrical Design Institute Co.,Ltd.was established in December 1982 in Hangzhou.It was formed by relocating four design research rooms from Xi’an,Anyang,Yibin,and Chongqing,which were originally part of the Beijing Light Industry Design Institute and Shanghai Light Industry Design Institute of the former Ministry of Light Industry,to support inland construction.It became one of the key design and research units directly under the Ministry of Light Industry.With the reform and deepening of China's scientific research system,it officially transformed into a technology-based enterprise on July 1,1999,as one of the 242 applied research institutes under the State Economic and Trade Commission.It belonged to China National Light Industry Machinery Corporation(renamed China United Equipment Group Co.,Ltd.in March 2010).In 2005,it was renamed Hangzhou Light Industry Mechanical&Electrical Design Institute and joined China National Building Materials Group Corporation(later renamed China National Building Material Group Co.,Ltd.)along with China National Light Industry Machinery Corporation.In June 2017,it joined Triumph Science&Technology Co.,Ltd.,a subsidiary of China United Equipment Group Co.,Ltd.,and in October 2017,it was restructured and renamed Hangzhou Light Industry Mechanical&Electrical Design Institute Co.,Ltd.,becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of China United Equipment Group Co.,Ltd.

The institute has a registered capital of 62.56 million yuan,occupying two sites in Hangzhou’s Stadium Road(Baoshanqiao)and Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City,covering a total area of 34.2 acres with a construction area of approximately 50,000 square meters.

The institute mainly engages in scientific research,development,engineering design,new technology and equipment development,equipment integration,technical services,and engineering general contracting for industries related to pulping and papermaking,daily chemical products,food engineering,etc.In recent years,it has extended and expanded its advantageous light industry processes and equipment technologies into related fields such as new building materials,paper-based materials,and biomass energy.

As a national high-tech enterprise and a"hidden champion"enterprise in Zhejiang Province,it has successfully passed the certification of Zhejiang Provincial Enterprise Research Institute,specialized,refined,distinctive,and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises,and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in Zhejiang Province.It owns two national-level laboratories and technical service platforms:the National Engineering Laboratory for Pulp&Papermaking and the Industrial(Light Industry Machinery)Product Quality Control and Technical Evaluation Laboratory.Professional bodies like the Machinery Committee of China Technical Association of Paper Industry,the National Light Industry Machinery Standardization Center and Standardization Technical Committee,the National Food Processing Machinery Standardization Technical Committee,the National Quality Supervision and Testing Center for Papermaking,Food,Daily Chemicals,and Plastic Machinery in the Light Industry,the National Quality Supervision and Testing Center for Garment Washing Machinery in the Light Industry,the magazine"Light Industry Machinery,"and the China Canned Food Industry Innovation Design Center are all located within the institute.It is also one of the product quality identification organizations in Zhejiang Province.
